In 2020 the median home value in West Palm Beach was $294,982. The current maximum lending limit for FHA-insured reverse mortgages is $822,375 which means most homes in West Palm Beach and in the surrounding area should see most if not all of their full home value considered in the calculation of the potential maximum reverse mortgage loan benefit. Homes above $822,375 may choose to apply for a private jumbo reverse mortgage for higher-valued properties.

Reverse mortgages calculate the maximum available loan benefit (before fees, costs, and lien payoffs) for qualified borrowers based on the home’s appraised value, the age of the youngest borrower, or named non-borrowing spouse, and the current/starting effective interest rate.

West Palm Beach is the county seat of Palm Beach County, Florida and is part of the Miami metropolitan area. It is the oldest incorporated city in South Florida. In 2020 113,749 residents lived inside the city limits making it the 19th largest city in Florida.

South Florida had been populated for centuries by the native peoples before Juan Ponce de León's arrival in 1513. The Spanish expedition found the Mayaimi, Jaega, and Ais people on the eastern coast of south Florida. Later the Seminole made present-day Florida their home. It was later in the 1870s and 1880s the first european settlers arrived in an area they referred to as “Lake Worth Country” settling along the shores of the freshwater Lake Worthy.. Two of the more prominent families that settled the area were the Potters and Lainharts.

One of the most notable residents of West Palm Beach was Henry Morrison Flagler who called the area a “veritable paradise”. Flagler had a vision of turning the area into a resort with a neighboring city for his workers.

Early residents raised vegetable crops and tropical fruits. The city was formally incorporated on November 5, 1894 making it the first incorporated municipality in South Florida. West Palm Beach quadrupled its population in the 1920s. Its population again surged during World War II thanks to Palm Beach Air Force Base. At one time German U-Boats sanke dozens of tankers and merchant ships just off the coast.

Popular local attractions and sights in West Palm Beach include the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum, Lion Country Safari, the South Florida Science Center, the beachfront Worth Avenue, and the Grassy Waters Preserve.
